This compelling coming-of-age story explores the challenges of maturity in the absence of parental guidance. It centers on Flavia, a fiercely independent and somewhat rough-around-the-edges girl whose mother is a caregiver in Italy, and whose father works on a construction site. Flavia’s sharp wit and sarcasm are evident, even in her interactions with Luca, with whom she shares a cool, flirtatious rapport. Their mutual attraction is palpable. Luca’s parents are also absent, and his fragile grandmother often shoulders the family responsibilities, leaving Luca to care for his younger sister Tina—who, one day, brings home two additional children. As the narrative unfolds, notions of commitment and emotional barriers begin to fade, giving way to a makeshift family that forms naturally amidst their carefree lives. Living freely, forging close relationships, and looking out for each other become their new normal. With Andrei Butică’s meticulous yet relaxed cinematography, inspired by the styles of Pialat and Rohmer, the film captures the adolescent ensemble’s evolving sense of responsibility. Whether exploring caves in the woods or navigating daily life in a prefab neighborhood, their sharp intelligence and lively energy shine through, highlighting the subtlety of their complex bonds.
